Introduction:
He is
a
graduate
of
Sydney
University
Medical
School
and
also
completed
a
degree
in
computer
science,
mathematics
and
physics
at
the
University
of
New
South
Wales.
Prior
to
specialising
he
held
the
positions
of
Registrar
in
Medical
Computing
(NSW
Health
and
RPAH)
and
Senior
Medical
Officer,
Research
and
Statistics
(Dept.
Veterans
Affairs,
Canberra).
He
trained
in
Ophthalmology
at
St
Thomas’
Hospital
London
&
the
Royal
Victorian
Eye
Hospital
in
Melbourne.
Dr Smith
is
a
member
of
many
National
and
International
Ophthalmic
Associations. He
regularly
presents papers
at
conferences
both
locally
&
internationally.
He
was
inaugural
chairman
of
the
Ophthalmic
Day
Surgery
Centres
Association
and
is
the
Ophthalmology
representative
on
the
National
Day
Surgery
Committee.
He
has
served
as
a
director
of
the
ION
group
Independent
Ophthalmic
Network.
Together
with
Dr
Kearns,
he
established
the
Sydney
Eye
Specialist
Centre
in
1985,
one
of
the
first
independent
eye
surgery
centres
in
Australia.
